Jo Woolf
Media Training and Mentoring

Hello! I'm Jo!  I'm an Executive Producer in Factual/ Unscripted TV and I've been working in the broadcast industry for over 20 years.

I understand how hard the industry is, as well as how inspiring, creative and interesting it can be.

As someone who has always been freelance, has taken time out of the industry for caring responsibilities, has always had to fund my own training, and who's felt I've had to work super hard to prove myself at every stage, I'm on a mission to help other people overcome the barriers and hurdles this career can throw at you.

So as well as working on productions I've started up my own training company.  Over the past ten years, both alone and in collaboration with some respected industry trainers, I've created a range of courses for Unscripted TV personnel including Edit Producing, Avid for Edit Producers, PD Boot Camp, Storytelling Strategies, Interview Techniques, Script-writing and Managing Difficult Situations.

I also offer one-to-one coaching in career development, and confidence-building.

I've nearly finished running a six month Screenskills subsidised training scheme: Edit Producing for Future SPs, for full details take a look here: https://www.screenskills.com/bookings/edit-producing-for-future-series-producers/

I hope this will be re-run in 2024/5 - so watch this space!

Coming up later in 2024 I have several short, intensive Edit Producing online courses - the next one open for bookings is weekend of 22nd/23rd June 2024.

I also have a Documentary Skills for Sports Producers course, co run with Sarah Kerley-Burton, bookable via the PD Bootcamp facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100036470208757 or by emailing bootcampforpds@gmail.com

Jo really helped me to point my career in the right direction when I was ready to take the next step up, but didn’t know how to get there. She was pivotal in helping me to realise my strengths, expertise and how this fitted into the industry. I’ve now got that more senior role.

Following Jo's expert advice and coaching, I've just been offered a job following a long break.  Jo helped me work out how to celebrate my experience, rather than pretending I'm a spring chicken.  I now have lots more confidence about my TV career.

I wanted to break into the TV industry but didn't know where to start.  Jo has helped me re-write my CV to tell my story more clearly and make me more attractive to TV production companies.  She's also helped me work out helpful ways forward.

Jo's Edit Producer’s Survival Guide course was absolutely brilliant, I would highly recommend to anybody looking to get a better understanding of the edit process. I learnt so much, all of which I know will be invaluble for my career going forward. Thanks so much Jo.

I love Jo's sense of humour and the fun and laughs we had whilst doing Edit Producer training.  So many courses are worthy and overly serious.  We learnt loads but had fun along the way.  It wasn't boring for even a minute. It was fab, one of the best I've done, without a doubt.

"Jo and Sarah are brilliant at conveying their vast knowledge and experience in PD Boot Camp.  They left me feeling far more confident as to what the role does, and should entail.
