Jo Woolf
Media Training and Mentoring
Hello!
I'm Jo, an Executive Producer in Unscripted. I've been working on productions for over 25 years and also run training in many elements of Unscripted Production including:

Edit Producing
Avid for Edit Producers
AI for the Edit
SP in the Edit
Producer/ Director training
Storytelling skills
Interview Techniques for getting the best out of Contributors, Presenters and Experts
Finding the Story in the Shoot and in the Edit
Casting
Development
Task Producing
Managing Tricky Relationships

I've been involved on shows from almost every Unscripted genre including Observational Documentaries, Popular Factual, Fixed rig shows, Social Experiments, Reality series, Specialist Factual programmes, Food and Travel shows, Digital Content, and so much more... Last year I tried my hand at Scripted by producing a short drama and this year I'm developing a feature doc and a long-form drama series.

I'm a massive believer in the power of training. I've benefitted from training myself at every stage of my career from a variety of excellent providers and schemes. 10 years ago I decided to start offering my own training, which I run alongside my production work. I've undertaken Train the Trainer training, and have also completed a diploma in Coaching for Business from City University - both have helped develop my training style and methods. I run training both by myself and in conjunction with other industry experts on particular modules including Editor trainer, Nigel Honey from Ability Academy.
I know how to make shows at every stage of the production process - from development to the shoot, and from the edit to final delivery. I watch a lot of content and attend many industry festivals and events. I pride myself in keeping up to date with changes in Production Technology and workflow as well as changes in audience and commissioner taste.

I have a particularly strong working relationship with Screenskills for whom I run many short courses and also, for the past two years, the longer-form training scheme Edit Producing for Future Series Producers.

I've run bespoke training for many Independent Production companies, marketing and communications departments, charities, channels and streamers. Clients include: Studio Lambert, Arrow Media, Netflix, North East Screen, Offspring Media, Wonderhood, Formula 1, and True North.

I also regularly run online training for TV freelancers to book into themselves.

Lastly I offer one-to-one coaching in any of the above topics or to help with career development, and confidence-building.

Jo really helped me to point my career in the right direction when I was ready to take the next step up, but didn’t know how to get there. She was pivotal in helping me to realise my strengths, expertise and how this fitted into the industry. I’ve now got that more senior role.
Following Jo's expert advice and coaching, I've just been offered a job following a long break. Jo helped me work out how to celebrate my experience, rather than pretending I'm a spring chicken. I now have lots more confidence about my TV career.
I wanted to break into the TV industry but didn't know where to start. Jo has helped me re-write my CV to tell my story more clearly and make me more attractive to TV production companies. She's also helped me work out helpful ways forward.
Jo's Edit Producer’s Survival Guide course was absolutely brilliant, I would highly recommend to anybody looking to get a better understanding of the edit process. I learnt so much, all of which I know will be invaluble for my career going forward. Thanks so much Jo.
I love Jo's sense of humour and the fun and laughs we had whilst doing Edit Producer training. So many courses are worthy and overly serious. We learnt loads but had fun along the way. It wasn't boring for even a minute. It was fab, one of the best I've done, without a doubt.
"Jo and Sarah are brilliant at conveying their vast knowledge and experience in PD Boot Camp. They left me feeling far more confident as to what the role does, and should entail.
